P2 Animation Comparison

Each of the three animations were made differently .

For example Dot was recorded by a mobile phone and made from real materials that were small and microscopic because the makers wanted to shows off the camera on the phone.

How are the animations made ?

South Park

To make South park a episode they start of by writing a storyboard and drawing ideas where they come up with all the jokes. They then start drawing and building all the characters they want to have in it they do this by using a sample of one of the characters and drawing around it to make the character they want and need. They also make the characters have moving body parts so they don't have to draw frame by frame.

After the characters are done they send it to the lip syncing team where they give the characters speech and make them talk by syncing the characters mouth to the speech.

Later on they send it to the lead editor who starts editing the anamatic of the animation and starts putting everything into place

Dot

To make the Dot animation the used a mobile phone by Nokia to capture microscopic models. They use the Nokia mobile phone attached with a microscope.

They used Nokia N8 which has a 12 megapixel camera . They used stop motion animation which had loads of different models of the main character dot.

To make the models they design a 2D model and then give it to the 3D printer who prints it out in a small scale in 3D.

To shoot the worlds smallest film they had to design there own scope which was designed by one of the engineers.

Peppa Pig

To make the Peppa Pig animation the software named CelAction 2D programme is used. The software it's self in not sold in any shops and cannot be accessed by anyone that only has an interest in animation.

"Our award-winning series, Peppa Pig and Ben & Holly's Little Kingdom, have a workflow unique to our methods of production, so that we can tell the stories we want with no limitations. CelAction take a real interest in our projects, giving valuable input and support at every stage of the production process, working with our team to come up with customizations to CelAction2D that make a real difference. Throughout all the years we have worked with CelAction, they have consistently provided improvements and features to the software based on our needs, allowing us to continue creating without compromise."Phil Davies - ProducerAstley Baker Davies Ltd.
